Since we opened in 2001, we’ve been developing strong relationships with area farms and consider ourselves lucky enough to source some of the best local ingredients found anywhere. We’ve listed just a few of our farmer friends here on the site. Come meet them anytime.


Because we source more than 40% of our ingredients from local farms, our menu changes daily. View our sample menu.


In 2007, we created Dinners at the Farm, a series of benefit dinners held on nearby farms celebrating our rich agricultural heritage. Over the past four seasons, Dinners at the Farm has fed nearly 6,000 people at sold-out dinners, donated $59,500 to local agricultural non-profit organizations and directly purchased more than $120,000 worth of food and wine from Connecticut producers. And, in 2008 River Tavern’s Dinners at the Farm was awarded the 2008 PathFinder Award for supporting local agriculture.


Then, in 2009, we helped start the ChesterSundayMarket, a bustling farmer’s market located on Main Street Chester featuring over 20 farms. Nearly 1,000 people visited each Sunday during the first season.


River Tavern is also a proud member of the Connecticut Department of Agriculture’s Farm-to-Chef program since it’s inception in May 2007.
